Supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, an NGO in India, the Voluntary Institute for Community Applied Science (VICAS) has been preparing an information and activity manual on water, ecology and renewable energy sources for students and teachers of standards 6-12.
Earlier this month, UNESCO held the UNESCO Forum on ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) and GCE (Global Citizenship Education), from 2-3 July, 2019, in Hanoi, Vietnam, with the aim to discuss the future of UNESCO's ESD and GCE initiatives under the Education 2030 Agenda between 2020 and 2030.
The COPERNICUS Alliance, the European Network on Higher Education for Sustainable Development, is organising its first online conference entitled ‘Reaching out for the stars: Consolidating the HESD constellation’. The event seeks to unite people and institutions to collaboratively explore how to best promote transformative learning experiences for sustainability and enhance the quality of higher education. And better yet – it is free of charge and carbon-free!
The 12th Asia-Pacific RCE Regional Meeting was held in Hangzhou, China from 4th to 6th June, 2019, and included a Symposium on ‘Enabling a Low-Carbon Society through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)’ on 5th June, followed by thematic workshops and a field trip on 6th June. It was held in conjunction with side events and SDGs shows on 4th and 5th June, 2019.
The World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC) is an international congress addressing education for environment and sustainability. For the first time, WEEC will be held in Asia. The theme for this 10th edition is ‘Local Knowledge, Communication and Global Connectivity’, with the goal of enhancing local knowledge within the global spotlight in terms of environmental education. RCE Delhi is organising its 20th Green Olympiad - the first national and international level annual environment examination for school children. The main objectives of the programme are to reach out to the budding youth segment, catch them ‘young’ to sensitise them on issues pertaining to environment and sustainability and empower them to undertake environment improvement actions.
RCE Ogun recently ran a climate change challenge for secondary schools, in which several schools in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State competed in an essay competition entitled 'Climate Change, Impacts on our Planet and my Role in Mitigating its Effects'.
Starting in January 2019, a didactic project was conducted with university students at the University of Southern Brittany, Vannes, France, within their existing French lessons.
On 18 April, 2019, RCE Ogun, in conjunction with the Department of Banking and Finance, Covenant University, Ota, conducted a workshop titled ‘Financial Literacy for Sustainable Business’, at Covenant University, Nigeria, with 325 participants in attendance.
