Welcome to the 2013 Global RCE Conference Communications and Outreach Discussion Group! Please join in the pre-conference discussions today by sharing your thoughts on the topics you feel most need to be addressed in the group meeting during the Global Conference in Nairobi.

This is a forum for anyone interested in sharing their travel, tourism or other personal plans around the conference. Hopefully it will provide an opportunity for people to perhaps form wider groups to see more of the country.

More than 50 people are already confirmed dead following a maritime collision between a ferry and a cargo ship off the central port of Cebu in the Philippines. In addition to the tragic loss of life, there is an impending environmental disaster looming as oil spills from the ships as a result of the collision. RCE Cebu is working diligently to help prevent further damage to the environment and they are urgently seeking advice from the RCE community and its partners for how best to cope with the spreading oil problem.

As the end of the Decade rapidly approaches and preparations for key meetings and celebrations gather pace, the RCE community is encouraged to recognise – and to take – the unique opportunity presented: we are invited to engage fully in the tasks necessary to make the outcomes of the events count. For we are celebrating not only the end of the (first) Decade, but – and arguably more importantly – consolidating our foundations for the next.
