The World Environment Day marked on 5th June 2014 in accordance to the global calendar of environment events. This year’s theme as released by UNEP to guide the activities is dubbed, ‘Raise your Voice, Not the sea-level’. In this regard, the UN has declared 2014 as “The international Year of Small Islands States”. The theme calls for increased awareness on the effects of Climate Change and minimizing of carbon emissions to the atmosphere which contribute to global warming and subsequently rise in sea-levels.

On behalf of RCE-Greater Pwani (Kenya), I would like to wish all RCE members very best wishes as we join individual efforts in marking the World Environmental Day. We at Pwani, have welcomed this special event, set for 5th June, by hosting a pre-WED where local schools and the community were invited for a tree planting session.

I call for all RCE members to have an input on this special event (WED). Apart from creating awareness, we may also choose to reach out to the community in our regions to educated them on environmental sustainablity issues.

The University of Edinburgh’s Moray House School of Education is launching a new MSc in Learning for Sustainability (ESD); developed with input for LfS Scotland (RCE Scotland). This programme offers practical insights and approaches to addressing Learning for Sustainability (ESD). Courses are delivered over weekends, evenings and online, therefore it provides a flexible way to gain a postgraduate qualification at MSc, Postgraduate Diploma, or Postgraduate Certificate level.

Dear RCE Youth,

Back in February the 5th, 2014 at the TERI University campus in Delhi, RCE Youth representatives across the entire continent gather to continue deliberations to set a direction for the Global RCE Youth Network. During the RCE Youth Session in Delhi, discussions were held and necessary contributions were made which invariably gave the Network a strategic direction.

At this juncture, we would like to hear your feedback before the 9th Global RCE Conference on:

Higher education institutions have a central role in enabling scalability of regional sustainability initiatives within an RCE and global sustainability initiatives frameworks. RCEs can play a key role in the transformation of higher education institutions as well as in the up-scaling of ESD initiatives for the benefit of society.

Dear All,

After 2014, we need a more radical approach to achieving sustainable development through education. Partnerships and collaborations will be key to sustaining sustainable development especially under the key 5 Principles of Global Call for Action on ESD.
