2016 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award on Saving Energy

If your school is in South East Asia and has implemented activities to reduce energy consumption within the school, you are invited to participate in the 2016 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award. This will give you the opportunity to be recognised as a model of best practices in Energy Conservation and to promote ESD across South East Asia. Deadline for submission is 25 November 2016.

Winners of 2016 UNESCO-Japan Prize for ESD

The three winners of the 2016 UNESCO-Japan Prize on ESD are:

1) the Centre for Community Regeneration and Development (CCREAD-Cameroon) from Cameroon, a youth-lead programme which targets children, youth, women and indigenous groups in marginalized, hard-to-reach communities

2) the Okayama ESD Promotion Commission from Japan, involving 240 organizations which show a highly unusual systemic and city-wide approach to ESD

Students Study Tour in South Korea: Regional Tourism Forum

The Business of Sustainable Tourism program funded by the Australian Commonwealth's New Colombo Plan Mobility Project connected eight Western Sydney University students with local tourism networks in South Korea.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Tourism Management under the Destination Management Unit, along with two university staff, undertook a two-week transformative study tour in July of 2016. Based in the Tongyeong Sejahtera Centre and the city of Busan the students learnt about sustainable and cultural tourism and embraced the local cultures and cuisine.

8th Tongyeong ESD International Forum, 21-22 October, 2016

Sejartera Forest is the outcome of Tongyeong RCE’s Decade of Education for SD, 2005-2015. The 8th Tongyeong ESD International Forum 2016, 21-22 October, 2016 under the theme of “Sejahtera Forest for All” will bring ESD friends of the Asia-Pacific region together to share and discuss about RCE Tongyeong's programmes, and facilities. This Forum will be held at the Sejartera Forest.

RCE Greater Masaka was launched on 21 September, 2016 at its hosting institution Uganda Martyrs University. The colourful ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honour Mr. Augustine Omare Okurut, as well as the Secretary General of the Uganda National Commission for UNESCO.

RCE Minna and RCE Grand Rapids organize the first Youth Virtual Conference (YVC) in Africa on youth empowerment and vocational training.

African countries face large economic challenges, partly due to the long dependence on mono-economies and the fall in commodity values. Youth are often the most affected, with high unemployment rates and little economic perspective. Incoherent youth programmes and little funding have added to the urgency for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes in this region.

Join us now for the 10th Global RCE Conference, 23-25 November, 2016 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Conference will discuss strategies to make substantial contributions to the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As 2017 will be an important year marking the mid-term of the GAP, the Conference also aims to reflect on the achievements and challenges of RCEs and discuss how we can accelerate our actions by engaging and working with local communities.

Links between health and biodiversity discussed at UNEA – aligning policy and practice

The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), which represents the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment, took place for a second time, under the overarching theme of “Delivering on the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The Assembly culminated in several resolutions and a global call to action to address the critical environmental challenges, facing the world today.
