The Alliance of Sustainable Universities in Austria has developed a joint project entitled ‘UniNEtZ - Universities and Sustainable Development Goals’, in which Austrian Universities take mentorships for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Agenda 2030.
Me & MyCity is a Finnish education innovation that has received international acclaim. Its story began in 2009. A learning concept aimed at school children, covering society, working life and entrepreneurship, the Me & MyCity learning environment is a miniature city where students work in a profession and function as consumers and citizens as part of society.

EU Member States met on 30 May to sign the Pact of Amsterdam and establish the Urban Agenda for the EU.
The New Urban Agenda will be the outcome document agreed upon at the Habitat III cities conference in October 2016. In turn, it will guide the efforts around urbanization of a wide range of actors — nation states, city and regional leaders, international development funders, United Nations programmes and civil society — for the next 20 years. This document aims to guide sustainable urbanization globally over next two decades. This will hopefully jump-start political negotiations ahead of the Habitat III conference in October.
Okayama joins the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities and reinforces its partnership with the UNESCO Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development. Okayama is inspiring learning cities in Japan and worldwide by putting education for sustainable development at the core of its initiatives.
Early this year an online platform was launched by the United Nations to assist cities to become more sustainable. It aims to identify challenges that are having an impact on urban development across the world. The launch of the Smart Sustainable Cities online community comes ahead of the first World Smart City Forum to be held in Singapore in July.
The 10 Year Framework on Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production launched the 5th call for proposals on Sustainable Buildings and Construction. Governments and NGOs in developing countries and countries with economies in transition are invited to submit proposals. Up to USD 500,000 are available to support up to 3 project proposals.
Outcomes from the 2nd International Conference on Learning Cities which took place in Mexico City from 28-30 September are now available on the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) website.

Negotiations are underway to set objectives and targets and establish a framework for implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to be adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. SDGs differ from their precursors, the Millennium Development Goals, in that they are meant to apply universally to all countries. We define universality as the ‘appropriateness’ of goals, targets, and indicators for global adoption.
