Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area :
Inje County was a battlefield during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, and is still an disconnect zone of war and confrontation in the middle of the demilitarized zone. Inje County is located at the intersection of Baekdudaegan, the main ecological axis of the Korean peninsula, and DMZ and has the best ecosystem diversity and abundance in Korea due to limited development activities due to military reasons, geographical location and natural conditions.

It is a report of the ecosystem of Korea with a population of 20 people per square kilometer, and it is a mountain village school. The water quality of the 19 rivers which have the highest oxygen content in the whole country and which is used for drinking water is very good and there are 18 places, and one good place is clean and clean air and water area.

More than 1 million tourists visit the area annually to visit the natural environment. There are Soraksan National Park, Korea's first UNESCO Biosphere Reservation Area, Korea's first Ramsar Wetland No. 1 Mt, Daeham Yongneup, DMZ, Birch Forest
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
Public transportation of Inje County is very uncomfortable. One million passengers who visit Inje County as well as local residents are the main transportation vehicles because they are expensive and inconvenient because there are not many routes of public transportation in Inje County and transfer rates are not applied. Inje County has been paying over 1 billion won in transportation income loss guarantee to guarantee the profit of private bus company in 1 year, but it has been receiving unsatisfactory service for a long time.

Through the improvement of the public transportation system used by local residents (students, seniors, women, soldiers) and visitors, the improvement of transportation welfare of local residents as well as the improvement of public transportation that can reduce greenhouse gas and various environmental pollution And the overall improvement of the fee.

Status:
Ongoing
Objectives:
Improve transportation and fare so that residents can easily use public transportation when traveling.
In the short term, we will implement a uniform fare and transfer rate plan and improve / expand uncomfortable routes.
Activities and/or practices employed:
Organized a committee with local residents who are interested to discuss the actual situation of public transport in Inje County and improvement plan, and conducted regular research / study. (Inje RCE, Inje Local Tour in the Sky, Inje Cheongryogil, Inje Life Society Practice headquarters)

Inje RCE, Inje Local Tour, Inje Cheonryul Gil, Inje Life Society Practice Headquarters, Yeonjang Association, Prosperity Council, Military Council, Women's Association Council, Farmers' Association , Aging councils, long-term councils, student councils, regional newspapers, etc.)

The committee has developed a plan to improve the short- and long-term public transportation system.

We shared the problems of public transportation with the local residents and visited the villages and organizations in order to improve them.
1) By village (6 town), groups (women, firefighting, sports, farmers, leader), schools, public officials,

We carried out the residents' signature campaign to improve public transportation. Approximately 5,000 residents (1/6 of Inje County's population) participated in this idea.

Opened its own forums and seminars, inviting Inje County and county lawyers, informing the residents of the current traffic policy and urging them to reflect on the policy.

As a result, the implementation of a uniform fare of public transportation fares in 2019, additional routes (tourist routes for visitors, routes connecting villages and villages) were confirmed.

The Inje RCE is making efforts to publicize the transportation system created by the participation and interest of the residents as a newsletter and to share it with the whole of Inje County.
Size of academic audience:
Talked about the need to improve public transportation for the headmen, residents and middle school students of the six towns of Inje County. As a result, about 5,000 students, one-fifth of the population of Inje County, I participated in this project and
Results:
Many residents participated in the exercise of citizens' rights (mobility rights) to use legitimate fares and routes. As a result, Bus fare flat rate / transfer fare system was implemented in 2019, public transportation was convenient for local residents, The route will be added so that it can travel.
Lessons learned:
The smaller the city, the greater the influence of the local government. There are many places where citizens' organizations can not express their voice. In improving the public transport system of Inje County, it is important to create a center point where citizens can participate and give their voice.
Key messages:
While investigating to improve the public transport system, public transport felt by local residents and students was not aware of the inconvenience of the uncomfortable traffic system. This indicates that citizens' consciousness is not growing due to the government-centered policy, and the damage to elderly people, students, and soldiers, who are socially less influential, has been inevitable.

As public transportation is uncomfortable, there are many cases where visitors coming from most cars settle in Sokcho, where accommodation and meals are located nearby. The convenience of public transportation means that if the visitors use the lodging (guest house) and restaurant of Inje County as much as possible, local economy will be activated.
Relationship to other RCE activities:
Inje RCE has been interested in public transportation problems because of the program that we have been walking for three years in advance. Inje is a program that restores the old culture of Inje and the ways in which life is considered due to the self-oriented road policy and learns and walks with the residents. Inje RCE has a practical role in promoting and operating the Inje Cheonil route. The most important point when restoring the roads and making the roads for walking was whether they could use public transportation. Currently, it has 420 courses, 35 courses in Inje, and it is walking with 30 residents every week.
