RCE Greater Nairobi
RCE Greater Nairobi is hosted by Kenyatta University, one of the largest universities in Kenya. The offices are situated at Old Moi Library building, rooms L6, L7 and L8. The Centre is coordinated by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA). The mission is to promote partnership, dialogue, networking and advocacy on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) towards public awareness for community action to facilitate economic and environmental sustainability.
RCE Greater Nairobi covers four counties: Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu and Machakos.
Goals and Objectives:
- Mobilise stakeholders around sustainable development goals while supporting concrete actions that make a difference in people’s lives
- Contribute to the local learning space for sustainable development
- Contribute to innovation through institutions and communities of best practice
- Work with stakeholders to contribute towards mainstreaming ESD in formal, non-formal, and informal organisations which are not necessarily educational
- Be a hub for networking among those engaged with communities in city slums and over time it should serve as a model from which other such centres can be set up
