10:00-11:30 COP21 Event: What is needed to unlock the power of ESD to help address the global climate challenge?
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is key to the attainment of IUCN’s conservation mission and ecosystem protection goals. It recognises that people are at the heart of any nature based solutions to climate change.
IUCN, represented through its Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) - is a formal partner of the UNESCO Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development. As such, IUCN and GAP Partners seek to advocate for embedding of learning and engagement strategies in climate change policies and action.
The outcome of the panel will be an input to formulating a road map to advance this goal within the GAP, IUCN CEC plans and CC context.
PANEL OF EXPERTS: Professor Daniela Tilbury, University of Gibraltar Dr. John Cortes, Minister of Environment & Climate Change, HM Government of Gibraltar Mr. Alexander Leicht, UNESCO Ms. Pam Punttenney, UN Education Caucus
