Engage Youth for Global Prosperity

Dear All,

According to the United Nations short range fertility forecast for Sub-Saharan Africa indicated that Nigeria would be third largest country in the world after India and China by 20100 with 750m people, another UN report also indicated that by 20100, 41% of global youth will come from Africa. Africa is the only continent that would double in size by 2040 i.e. from 1billion to 2billion. The Continent is the only barging continent on earth, where the land, atmosphere, businesses are all immature and all are based on like a new born baby.

Based on strategic location of Africa and its population, the continent has an edged over its counter part in the near to long term future scenario and that make the continent more and more attractive as a new bride to many for marriage.

Young people from Africa and all over the world hold the economic key board of changing our world for the better but only when we come together under an umbrella, youth serve as an engine room for economic progress and prosperity and contribute to the sustainability of our earth, youth are the only ones that can set the processes of transition to a low carbon economies in the world, youth are the only ones that could digitalize the world to how we want it, giving youth voice and considering them as equal partners will assist in achieving a sustainable earth because, engaging them in global affairs is the best idea ever.

Without young people in the decision making process of this planet, we will have a long way to go because, youth hold the key on how to unlock and change the world we want in the short term forceable scenario. 21st Century is all about networking among youth, sharing of ideas, knowledge gathering and dissemination, and contribute in the journey to the future we want.

Engaging youth in decision making process of our world has no second option, is the best decision world leaders could ever take to effect global sustainability. Through various channels setup by the United Nations and other world bodies, we could come together under one umbrella to set strategic manoeuvring mechanisms of a digital age that will highlight and implement options on the ground for global sustainability where the interactions of our environment, the economy and society bring best of the best.

The economic engine room and power house of any economy are its youth, any economy either on brown growth or growth will largely be affected if the growing population are old.

Well said Mr. Uusman Muhammed. The Youth are tomorrow's leaders whom the elderly should invest in alongside working as mutual partners. If granted full support then am sure we shall arrive at a sustainable future. More so, we should come together under one umbrella regardless of our ethnic backgrounds so as to set a platform for further developments, globally, with the youth number taken into much consideration. In that regard, it is also imperative to involve the youth in all aspects of decision-making processes and there is no doubt we will have a long way to go as a joint team.

Yes youths are the great assets of the country,their role in decision making process is greatly appreciated. However, Africa has its own identity with diverse cultures and traditions. Many of the traditions have great value and still Africa is less affected environmentally. Therefore, I would like to advise the youths should learn the nature's value first and work for the their own development and then to respect the family bindings and the social cultures. They must find out what are good things/cultures they have and respect this, preserve and encourage to respect by the others. Development is a very relative term, so everything coming from the developed world are not or may not good for the environment of the great continent Africa. So, youths may not be decision makers but should know the identifying characters of rights and wrong for their country, region and environment as a whole.

Well said, I believe globalisation has adverse effect on cultures not only on Africa but the entire world, youth in Africa strive hard to preserve cultures and traditions but some powerful and invisible forces are retarding the efforts back.

On the environment, you may wish to know that Africa emits less carbon compared to other continent but is more vulnerable to changing. IPCC estimates that the sea level could rise by one meter over the next century. Large African cities will be submerged under rising sea levels; more than 40% of wildlife habitats could disappear. Up to 70million people could be at risk from rising sea level in Africa, this affect Africa’s poorest.

We need to work together to enhance global sustainability and the only threat to that is climate change.

Very true Mr. Usman! Youths have the urge to bring positive change to the environment but there are many obstacles that are set before us. Dear Mohammed, allow me to dissagree with the bit that you mentioned as quoted here after... "Africa is less affected environmentally". The fact is, any effects being dirrected into the environment do not only affect only a particular region but rather the entire globe. It is therefore wise to empower and network the youth all over the world to have a common voice that would see quick solution to the current problems and the asnticipated future challenges. I do agree with you that youth play a vital role in this world.
