Dear Professor Tabucanon, Thank you very much for the great discussion issue. Although the world has been achieved a lot but still we are helpless against the natural or climate extreme disaster. I consider DRR as a prime issue which needs more attention and of course active national and international policy.

Although people are now advocating climate change adaptation, but DRR is more important as the cc adaptation is a long term factor may thousand or hundreds of thousand years. DRR includes other geological changes as well. So we need to explore the traditional as well as high tech scientific measures to reduce the risks of disasters. It cam be mentioned here that the fires in Australia and California can easily be controlled by planting suitable trees and also by quick evacuation and rescuing.

The Disaster Risk Reduction session will focus on sharing of experiences on real-life situations that RCEs or members of the RCE network have learned from actual disasters and their aftermaths. The sharing of lessons learned would enable RCEs to improve and strengthen their preparedness and response capabilities. How RCEs can work together and come up with effective preparedness and response systems will be discussed. RCEs are expected to suggest collaborative action points, especially in light of and contributions to the implementation of the post-2014 Global Action Programme on ESD.

I believe this session will be an eye opener to many as DRR provide a day to day solutions to the many natural and anthropogenic disasters. The sharing of experiences and coping mechanisms will offer an opportunity to the RCE fraternity to safeguard against eminent disasters and provide room for capacity strengthening for sustainable development endevours
