About 135 Regional Centers of Expertise (RCEs) have been accredited by the United Nations University – Institute for Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) throughout various regions of the world within the UN declared Decade of  Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) from 2005-2015. 

LAST week, the University of the Philippines (UP) hosted the 8th Asia-Pacific RCE Conference. Before the day I learned I was going to be part of the technical working group for the conference, I didn't know what RCE was. I asked the assistant who handed the memo what RCE was, and she could only manage a smile for an answer. Poor me, I got a smaller world.

CEE’s Annual Meet was taken as an opportunity to organize several other meetings as most of the CEE staff travel to Ahmedabad and is available there. RCE Meet was one of such meetings. All CEE RCEs attended the meeting.

Over 650 participants, including learners, facilitators and managers of Kominkan(Community Learning Centre of Japan) and other Community Learning Centers (CLCs), community educators, representatives from governments, United Nation agencies and researchers gathered together for the Kominkan-CLC International Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), held in Okayama-City, Japan from 9 to 12 October 2014. Participants discussed how to sustain and promote ESD through community-based learning, drawing on their rich experience of working together with local communities.

The Japanese RCE Meeting was held in Sendai, Japan on 16 March 2015 hosted by RCE Greater Sendai. All six Japanese RCEs (RCE Greater Sendai, RCE Yokohama, RCE Chubu, RCE Hyogo-Kobe, RCE Okayama and RCE Kitakyushu) came together and reported activities implemented in 2014.
