This project is designed for graduating class students of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria under the “Student Today Alumni Tomorrow” (STAT) anchored by the University’s Directorate of University Advancement, tagged the “2016 Graduating Class Legacy Project. The goals of the project are to create a source of the revenue overtime under what the students refer to as “Their Giving Back”. The objective where to create job opportunities for skilled and unskilled labour, provide annual income to the university of up to two hundred million annually and the improvement of food supply chain in the region, the second goal is for the students to offset their carbon footprint from their various travels and activities during their 4 year stay in the university. Each student is required to contribute N500 annually to plant and nurture one orange tree over a period of three years until the tree starts fruiting. The plantation is to provide the basis for establishment of industries in Juice making industry and for sourcing of bi-products. The project provides a transition between ESD learning programmes in the university with lifelong actionable project that students are likely to engage in later part of life.
