The Tsuha Global Fellows Program at The University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth, seeks to support the next generation of leaders from low- and middle-income countries (as defined by the World Bank) to implement projects in their local regions which are related to the UNSDGs. The Program will provide successful applicants with targeted educational, mentorship and networking opportunities to implement projects in their home country related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This Fellowship supports a diverse range of Fellows selected from across the world to implement projects in their local regions. The Fellowship aims to implement projects in low to middle income countries as defined by the World Bank. Although there wasn't any geographical restrictions for Fellowship applicants, innovative leaders from countries in Africa, the Indian Ocean Rim and South East Asia were encouraged to apply. Thus, due to the international nature of this project, the socioeconomic and environmental characteristics for each individual projects of the Tsuha fellows differs.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
The SDG challenge for each individual project differs according to the Tsuha Fellow due its international nature. However, the Fellowship aims to bridge the gap to quality education and mentorship opportunities which aids in accelerating innovating ideas to combat particular SDG challenges in each region which the Fellow is addressing.

Rationale:
Through this program, the next generation of sustainability leaders in low to middle income countries can be identified, and through the ongoing financial support, mentorship and networking opportunities provided through this Fellowship, the unique challenges of specific regions in these low to middle income countries can be targeted. This contributes to the global effort to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

- Equip students in lower-income countries to become even stronger leaders
- Help students develop advanced research, leadership and advocacy skills to apply evidence-based solutions to complex issues in their community and field of work.
- Drive innovative solutions to specific SDG challenges
- Overcome barriers to mentorship, quality education and networking opportunities for the creation of impactful projects.

Activities and/or practices employed:
Successful Fellows will be matched to work with academic staff mentors at UWA who are expert in their respective areas of interest. A maximum of two Fellows will be selected to work with each academic mentor.
Year 1: Fellows refine their proposal, complete relevant (online) coursework at UWA, and begin mentor relationships with academic staff members.
Year 2: Fellows translate their proposal into achievable goals, including documenting timelines for milestones and deliverables.
Years 3-5: Fellows implement and measure the impact of their projects with regular communication with their mentors and Program coordinators.

Costs associated with a Fellow's participation will be covered by the Tsuha Global Fellows Program. Costs include, but are not limited to:
