Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area : 
Munich is a large city with over 1.5 million inhabitants. Munich is located in the federal state of Bavaria, in the south of Germany. Munich is a center for culture, politics, science and media and numerous companies have their headquarters here. The foothills of the Alps offer many opportunities for excursions into the beautiful nature.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses: 
During the two-year pandemic, it was not easy to attract students to the Munich University Days. Nevertheless, we managed to digitally implement the University Days every semester with volunteer work from students.

Rationale: 
The National Action Plan on Education for Sustainable Development calls for the development of transformative narratives for ESD, and the Munich University Days have been advocating for this every semester since 2010. The supporting group Munich University Days encourages, supports students as central shapers of sustainable development and lets them participate seriously.
Objectives: 
Students are especially important as "change agents" for sustainable universities. At the same time, the engagement of students can help develop ESD-relevant competencies in a particularly effective way. The Munich University Days support them in this.
Activities and/or practices employed: 
Every semester, the students get together and choose a central theme for the Munich University Days. They design and implement this together in a participatory process.
Size of academic audience: 
~ 200 students per year
Results: 
The results of the Munich University Days are very diverse. Each semester, different topics are taken up and events are implemented:
e.g. panel discussions, workshops, guided tours of sustainable businesses/companies, lectures, open discussion rounds, theater plays, slams, and much more.
Lessons learned: 
Since the process often starts with new students each semester and always ends with a project result, the success factors for the students are immediately visible: each semester project results were achieved i.e. events implemented. The students face up to the challenges and are supported by the supporting group when problems arise.
