Target Audience:
Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area :
Munich is a large city with over 1.5 million inhabitants. Munich is located in the federal state of Bavaria, in the south of Germany. Munich is a center for culture, politics, science and media and numerous companies have their headquarters here. The foothills of the Alps offer many opportunities for excursions into the beautiful nature.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
In order for education for sustainable development in the city of Munich to be addressed to all citizens, a diverse range of educational opportunities is needed at the formal, non-formal and informal levels. Teachers and citizens can inform themselves about the ESD/SDG learning sites via the learning site platform.
Status:
Ongoing
Period:
January, 2019 to December, 2023
Rationale:
The city of Munich has more than 1.5 million inhabitants and many educational, cultural and social institutions that teach ESD in one way or another. The platform should provide a low-threshold access for the user.
Objectives:
Munich has a lot to offer: Museums, theaters, libraries, clubs, associations, actors, initiatives, schools, universities and much more. What they all have in common is that they impart education in one way or another. This gives rise to what is known as an educational landscape.
Many institutions are dedicated to sustainability in their context, incorporating Agenda 2030 with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and education for sustainable development (ESD) into their work. Such "learning places" provide valuable experiences for a holistic understanding of our life in a global world.
The ESD/SDG Learning Venues Platform makes the educational landscape in Munich visible through maps and enables the user to get a lot of information at a glance.
Mapped so far are the Munich university groups, Munich university activities internally (pilot) and the districts Au/Haidhausen & Berg am Laim (pilot). The expansion of the platform continues steadily.

Activities and/or practices employed:
Research, definition of ESD learning sites, definition of topics, development of a survey tool, transfer of data into a platform tool, marketing for platform tool.
Size of academic audience:
3500
Results:
The results are displayed on the map overviews of the ESD/SDG learning site platforms.
Lessons learned:
During the pandemic, some ESD/SDG learning sites could not be reached. Ongoing inquiries are made to the learning sites, but the response is reserved. The feedback on the platform itself is consistently positive.
