5. Project description
Provide a short description of the project including strategies, regional challenges, aims and specific project activities.: 

PSU hosted a variety of events that build on the connections between social and environmental issues. The 2016 signature event for this series featured Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner and was titled “Fighting Climate Change with Global Action and Poetry”. Co-sponsored by a variety of cultural centers and local organizations, the event brought attention to the Marshallese Islands (home of the speaker) and how they are being impacted by sea level rise and climate change. Jetnil-Kijiner recently received a standing ovation for her spoken word poetry. Other Social Sustainability Month events included a workshop by GPSEN Board member and PSU alum Laura Kutner and a variety of culturally-inspired events.

Description: 
This series of events is offered every fall at Portland State University. RCE Greater Portland sometimes offers programming and helps with outreach. We hope to do so next fall as well.
