Target Audience:
Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area :
Iberia (Spain and Portugal) is one the areas that are begining to be greatly affected by climate change in Europe. Yet, they have a great potential for green policies related to conservation of their natural wealth, renewable energy and have a very unique role as nexus with the Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries of the Americas and Africa, especially as a bridge where the "Buen Vivir", "Ubuntu" and "Degrowth" strategies and values can meet in sinergic alliance. At the same time they have in common inequity and unemployment problems, rural abandonement, desertification, loss of traditional knowledge and forest monoculture problems.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
Following Spanish Government country-challenges described at the official document "Estrategia de Desarrollo Sostenible 2030" (July 2021) our project addresses at least:
-RP2: TO FACE CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCY.
-RP4: TO OVERCOME INEFFICIENCIES OF THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM.
-RP7: TO PUT AN END TO GLOBAL INJUSTICE AND THREATS TO HUMAN RIGHTS, TO DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES AND TO PLANET'S SUSTAINABILITY
-RP8: TO REVITALIZE OUR COUNTRYSIDE AND TO FACE DEMOGRAPHY CHALLENGE.

Status:
Ongoing
Period:
January, 2023 to December, 2023
Rationale:
We find ourselves in a dead-end street: industrial civilization has already begun to clash with the biosphere's limits. This brings us towards either a controlled degrowth or collapse as a species. We need a periodical publication like 15/15\15 that narrates and fuels this 3rd Revolution of humanity.
The 15/15\15 magazine seeks paths for the peoples of the Iberian Peninsula (and also the Americas and beyond) navigate through a civilizational crisis that is already in its initial stages in order to construct a new, more modest human culture peacefully kept within the limits of the planet. And new cultures do require new media for a new education.
Following the success of the book "Guía para o descenso enerxético" (Guide to the Energy Descent) and the "Last Call" manifesto, we embarked on a complementary project with the goal of continuity and maximum social impact. This took the form of a magazine for all people seeking a paradigm shift. An accessible and distinctive publication that helps to extend comprehension and consciousness regarding this civilization crisis to more and more levels of our societies. In keeping with this profound cultural change, the magazine aims to be a pioneering example of the new democratic media we need.

Objectives:
It's urgent to boost social awareness not only about the environmental, climate, energy or biodiversity crisis, but also a great social awareness of both social and ecological RESILIENCE. We have to embark on a collective and urgent reconstruction of resilience at all levels and in all countries. This big task is part of the greater task of building a new post-fossil fuels and post-growth culture, education, art and civilization. Here, the goal which 15/15\15 is pursuing since 2015 is to raise that awareness firstly in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, being Galicia an ideal point to start, because it's the natural nexus between both cultural worlds, and to showcase all collective experiences that are helping us to get there.
Activities and/or practices employed:
The main activity is the publication itself, in printed, online and PDF formats, reaching thousands of people each year. The publication have dedicated sections for Analysys, Reflections, Artistic Creation, Book reviews, Journalistic chronicals, Proposals of Actions, Events agenda, Monthly newsletter, etc.
Besides, we publish other interesting materials, mainly from our authors, of educational, academic or artistic nature in the "Downloads" section of our site.
We also mantain a social networking activity, now centered in the Fediverse with our own Mastodon instance and our own Telegram channel (+500 subscribers).
This is complemented with some online and offline conferences and presentations which we are invited to, by universities, social organizations, etc.

Lessons learned:
We have identified as the main factor in success the unique character of the magazine, which is multiple: hand-crafted bookbinding, multi-lingual, wide scope of authors (both academic and activists), direct connection authors-readers. Besides, the growing social awareness of the civilizational character of the crisis has helped us reach a wider audience each year.
The main challenge is to get more staff, both volunteer and hired, to keep growing at the needed pace.
Being concepts like 'postgrowth', 'degrowth', 'civilizational crisis', 'collapse', 'climate chaos', etc. more widely known and used in social, academic, activist and political arenas, is a big opportunity for our pioneer media effort.

Relationship to other RCE activities:
Unsustainability of our energy system, rural abandonement, monocultures, inequity, climate justice, need for public education on ecological issues had all been cited as regional challenges in the 2017 RCE-Galicia application. Our magazine was mentioned there as one of the main promotional tools for the whole RCE-Galicia collaborative and individual activities, but not being limited to those, and including content from many other groups and authors which share same visions and values.
Our project is also related with all RCE educational activities focused on alternatives to growth, eco-social resilience and alternatives for a rural revitalization.
