Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area : 

Arunachal Pradesh is a very young state. It is strategically important for India as a nation, because it is located along the Indo-China border. The state has lots of potential however; there are lots of challenges too. The development in the region started very late. Therefore there is hardly any infrastructural development and so no employment opportunities.

The local communities of the aforementioned districts are situated quite away from the mainstream population. And hence educating the people on the impact of their action on neighborhood and environment is the need of the hour. This region is a jewel among the forested habitats in Arunachal. There is an urgent need to preserve its biodiversity at all costs. The participation of all the stakeholders (the forest department, the community, and community-based organisations) in a sustainable manner will extensively help in the preservation of the last frontier of thriving wildlife and habitats in Arunachal Pradesh.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses: 
(1) Lack of education on the subject (2)Lack of industrial/ commercial development and the lack of even small economic strategy like micro enterprise activities (3) Depletion of forest resources due to unchecked extraction (4) Changing lifestyle that lead to economic problems (5) Already existing environmental problems in the form of frequent landslides, flash floods, rivers changing course and washing away the farm land, etc.

Rationale: 
“To address the core issues of environmental degradation on one hand and to promote livelihood issues of local ethnic communities on the other hand by providing suitable solutions and alternative means for sustainable development through mitigation of local challenges.”
Objectives: 
The prime object is to conserve the natural environment by adhering to promoting eco-tourism and organic farming at community level, which will not only enable unemployed youths at community level to become economically self-sufficient but will also create awareness in the country and the rest of the world. The organic farming includes poultry, fishery, goattry; cow-raring, eco-tourism, black paper includes bird-watching, wild animals’ site seeing, promotion of local handicrafts, handlooms, textiles, etc.

RCE Mishmi Hills conduct door-to-door awareness campaign on River Cleanliness drive and Waste Segregation.

Volunteers of NGOs Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society and RCE Mishmi Hills carried out a river cleanliness drive at Eze and Iphi river and door-to-door campaign on ‘source segregation of waste’ among the business community and residents of Ezengo Village, Kebali, 6KM and Roing town here on Saturday, in an effort to increase awareness about efficient waste disposal.

“Along with volunteers from Kasturba Gandhi Institute of Higher Education, Roing visited several homes and businesses during the daylong campaign, and distributed information booklets on trash management, besides stickers displaying correct trash segregation.

The drive was a part of ‘Mission Clean, Save Water, Save Life’, which is an effort by the by RCE Mishmi Hills with support from the AMMS and KGIHE Roing.

“Waste management and disposal of waste is a serious issue that we are facing nowadays. If we are not aware of proper waste management, it leads to serious issues like air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution.

By doing small practices in our daily life, we can make a huge difference. For that, we all have to practice ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ in our daily life,” Mission Clean, Save Water , Save Life’, coordinator Shri Komini Meto said.

“Educating the public on source segregation is the way forward in waste management,” he added.

Komini Meto informed that the RCE Mishmi Hills and Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society (AMMS) will organise a river cleaning campaign in Mishmi Hills to discourage excessive use of plastic in Himalayan belt. Plastic that is coming in the form of packaging material, plastic bottles, useful domestic things and even various components of machines is enormously growing. In the absence of proper mechanism in plastic waste disposal or recycle and reuse methods, this plastic is chocking up all natural water ways, causing seepage and slides. Rivers then carry these debris and deposit it somewhere. This is causing great loss of agricultural land mass. It is to be noted that Deopani river of Lower Dibang Valley carried away the Aisa’s biggest Belly bridge in 2000 and after that all the three subsequent bridges. He urged all likeminded people to participate in the upcoming events.

Incorporating Field study visits to villages, nearest fields of Jhum cultivation - past and present, deforested areas, timber saw mills, to demonstrate the inter dependence of man and nature.

“If you want to keep the environment clean and green then you should make cleanliness a part of your life”
