Status:
Ongoing
Period:
April, 2022
Rationale:
Disaster prevention education from childhood is necessary for people to live safely and securely in Japan, a disaster-prone country.
Objectives:
Through this project, we aim to raise awareness about disaster prevention and develop human resources to build a safe and secure city.
Activities and/or practices employed:
At the civic center, local children are invited to experience handmade games to learn about disaster prevention.
Size of academic audience:
Approximately 30 people participated in this project. It has also been used by approximately 3,000 learners.
Results:
The importance of disaster prevention was communicated to the children who participated. As a byproduct, the event provided an opportunity for participants to learn more about their own community and to broaden their connections with others in the community.
Lessons learned:
The success was not due to the fear factor, but to the fact that the children were interested in disaster prevention by teaching them important things through play.
