Country:
Kenya
Location(s):
Vihiga County

Most farming is not sustainable and is subsistence leading to food insecurity. by bringing in the this farming techniques, most of the people will be having some form of income and better lifestyle and nutritional levels will also improve. poverty being high they need support in investment of water harvesting techniques.
Status:
Ongoing
Period:
January, 2022 to December, 2027
Rationale:
We need policies governing hydroponic farming, use of nutrients in hydroponic farming, water harvesting and reusability policies and value addition and distribution of value added products through the downstream supply chain. value addition shall ensure that there is no waste in the food supply chain while maintaining nutritional value and increasing economic stability of users and creating jobs.
Objectives:
To ensure proper water harvesting and use
to ensure food security
to create value addition in the food supply chain
to ensure food security
to create value addition in the food supply chain
Activities and/or practices employed:
Agripreneurship, water recycling, food value addition, job creation, sustainable land and water use
Size of academic audience:
4
Results:
The tests of a farm have shown that this is possible and can be taken further and even commercialized. the farmer has use local resources and as such they have the skills to learn some more and then the project is expanded.
Lessons learned:
Water storage is an issue as costs can be high. this was mitigated by learning about natural water aeration in the field. to reuse the water more.
Relationship to other RCE activities:
