The project addresses the challenge/need for developing structures of shared governance, leadership and capacity across multiple sectors and levels of organization to promote education for sustainability.
Status:
Completed
Period:
November, 2020
Rationale:
There is a need for innovative governance models that promote a common vision for sustainable development and distributed leadership at regional scales. The presentation in the Virtual Congress: Participatory Territorial Governance Platforms in the Face of the Global Crisis was an opportunity to inform an international audience about the 10-month progress of RCE Puerto Rico-REDeS, sharing the experience of the governance construction process and anticipated future steps to advance education for sustainability in Puerto Rico.
Objectives:
Learn about the RCE concept and global network, and the governance process for developing RCE Puerto Rico-REDeS. Share resources for learning about the SDGs that can be aligned with the Model Forest Network.
Activities and/or practices employed:
Preparation of a written document and video presentation that were shared in the Virtual Congress, one of 60 entries from 15 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain.
Size of academic audience:
To date the Congress papers and presentations have been viewed online by more than 2,000 people.
Results:
The educational materials created for the Virtual Congress documented the ongoing governance process of RCE Puerto Rico-REDeS and shared challenges and opportunities associated with that process with an international community. They also presented viewers with resources about the Global RCE Network that can help educate about the SDGs and their relevance to the Model Forest concept.
Lessons learned:
Participating in this space for convergence and dialogue allowed us to reflect internally on our RCEs governance process. It also exposed us to examples that will help RCE Puerto Rico-REDeS structure inclusive, equitable and holistic governance, taking into consideration cases of community success that serve as a guide for our work at different educational levels.
Relationship to other RCE activities:
The project aligns with ongoing work being conducted by the RCE Puerto Rico-REDeS governance committee.
