Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area : 
Tanga region is located in the East part of Tanzania closer to the Indian Ocean. Main economic activities are fishing, agriculture and animal husbandry. The area in Lushoto is composed of higher lands that attracts horticulture production.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses: 
SDG 1 - End poverty in all its forms everywhere
SDG 2 - End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture
SDG 5 - Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Rationale: 
The activities are very important for the improvement of agriculture sector in Tanzania. The sector which employ 80% of Tanzanians
Objectives: 
Create awareness among farmers on climate smart agriculture and weather index
Link producer organizations with other stakeholders in the agriculture sector
Construction of net houses and local chicken brooder
Create a farmer market network
Create radio programs and Tv programs for agriculture

Lessons learned: 
Negative attitude of insurance among Tanzanians because of bad experience
Market challenge for agricultural products
Reluctance of financial institutions to dish out loans to farmers
Youth negative attitude on agriculture
Gender inequalities
Key messages: 
Agriculture is the backbone of Tanzania, employs more that 70% of Tanzanians. It is time to go back to all policies signed to boost agriculture. Do not leave farmers alone.
Relationship to other RCE activities: 
The project is related to RCE on capacity building and training of farmers on climate smart agriculture and environmental education where trees are planted where ever net house is constructed for wind braking, shed and environmental management
