Youth Summit "Harnessing Talent for Wealth Creation and Sustainable Development”

Date: 1-3 March, 2017

Location: MMUST, Main Campus, Kakamega, Kenya

Kakamega Western RCE and the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in conjunction and collaboration with the Writers Guild of Kenya is hosting the largest gathering of young Creative Artists in Kenya. This is in response to the understanding that every year young people graduate from the Basic Education Cycle but most of them are not usefully employed. Those who join Tertiary Education Cycle, graduate and many of them become unemployed for long periods of time, adding pressure on society. Yet, most of these youths are highly talented and creative! These issues challenge all leaders and especially educators in Kenya, as the skills and talents of these youth could contribute substantially to the Vision 2030 for Kenya and the fulfilment of the SDGs.

RCE Kakamega Western and MMUST is organising this Summit to chart a way forward for this generation. The Summit is intended to bring together young people, sensitize and enhance their talents and skills for independent and meaningful co-existence in our current knowledge-based economies. Among the key note speakers is the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Youths and Devolution, Hon. Sicily Kariuki, the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Education Hon. Fred Matiang’i, Mr. Indimuli Kahi (Principal Chavakali Boys’ High School) ,Mr. Minishi (Principal Kakamega Boys’ High School),  Dr. Kennedy Otieno (Psychologist / motivational speaker), Mrs. Stella Chitechi (Principal Mukumu Girls’ High School among others.
