Introduction:

It has been highlighted and observed that Orang Asli community is facing a dental health barrier mainly due to the geographical factor. Observation were made that they are lacking in awareness regarding their oral health originating from inappropriate and limited facilities. They are also has very poor knowledge regarding the matter. As they live in suburb or semi urban area their standard of living are incomparable to those living in bigger towns and cities.

Objectives:   

1. To enhance essential oral health knowledge and awareness amongst Orang Asli teacher, parents and students.

2. To provide basic oral health services for Orang Asli students

3. To educate good oral hygiene and habits amongst the group

Knowledge transferred:

This project has five phases which are: 1) Project engagement approval from ethic committee and Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli Malaysia 2) Initial visit to know the target group and enhance rapport and trust 3) Developing the tri-lingual dental health kit for Orang Asli 4) Visits to educate and serve the Orang Asli dental needs 5) Visits to evaluates the self-sustainability of the oral hygiene and habits by the community.

Impact of project:

This project aim to educate and instil a good oral hygiene and habits amongst the Orang Asli with the aid of the tri-lingual dental health kit and exposure from the visiting clinicians and volunteers.
