Video and short report on the Youth Conference 2015 RCE Greater Dhaka
The first Youth Conference "Searching Green Ambassadors" took place in International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), the Secretariat of RCE Greater Dhaka.
The main aim of the event was to search for Youth Green Ambassadors that will tackle future sustainability challenges.
RCE Greater Dhaka is currently in the process of building a network among the youth partners in the country. Among the partners leading this project are Mr Banna Al Hasan, CEO, Ohnish Films, Mr. Ahsan Roni, President, Green Savers, and Nazif Yealmi, President, Change, a community organization in Uttara, Dhaka.
Principal Md Shahinur Miah, Nawab Habibullah from the Model School and College was present in the ceremony as an invited guest. The program was presided by Prof. M. Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT and also the Chairman of RCE Greater Dhaka. Students from Nawab Habibullah Model School and College, volunteers from the community organization CHANGE of Uttara were also present there with an enthusiastic number of IUBAT students.
The programme started with Dr M Rehan Dastagir, Advisor of the RCE Greater Dhaka Youth Forum, followed by Prof. Dr M A Rahman, Coordinator of RCE Greater Dhaka who emphasized the importance of partnership and training of youth leaders by the host university IUBAT. Nazif Yealmi introduced his members to the audience and showed strong commitment to working together.
Ahsan Rony described the current project of planting tress in the limited but free space of Dhaka city and especially on the rooftop and on balconies. Banna Al Hasan praised the green auditorium of the university and concluded the sesion with the national anthem to make a green golden Bengal.
Prof M Alimullah Miyan welcomed the young audience in the conference and spoke about his deep concern on the various environmental issues of Bangladesh. He explained the present policies on environmental research of the institution named as APN-Asia Pacific Network project and the role of IUBAT in facilitating environmental education on both the academic and the community level.
He urged everyone on future community outreach of the organization with its responsibility to save the degrading environment. Finallye all green ambassadors among the youths received the green badge. The programme ended with a theatrical performace on energy waste in homes and deforestation.
