2. Project Information
1. Project title:
Placed Based Learning Network
2. Project Description:
Place-based education and/or ‘place-based learning’ describe a wide range of approaches which focus or ‘situate’ learning on the learners’ own “place” or home locality. They are generally oriented towards the local community and/or environment (in contrast to school-/institution based learning which often operate as if they are divorced from the local context). Typically, they are ‘hands-on’, collaborative, participatory and project-based. Furthermore, they tend to explore relevant ‘real-world’ issues with a view to understanding and taking action. Consequently they often use participatory research methods

18. Learning activities:
Learning is rooted in, but not confined to, the learners’ own “place” or home locality. Thus consideration of the links between the ‘home locality’ and the wider world is an important dimension. It enables the development of a cosmopolitan or ‘Global Sense of Place’ which allows solidarity with other places at a range of scales around the world.
