a) Criteria/ indicators used to assess aspects of RCE work/ project: Character count 300 words:
RCE Western kakamega has been involved and contributed towards the national outcome mappin as coordinated by NEMA.The RCE participates in the annual data provision for the national Outcome Mapping (OM) monitoring and evaluating for ESD implementation in Kenya.
b) Successes of the RCE and lessons learned: Character count 300 words:
The RCE Western has initiated research geared towards ESD in collaboration with various stakeholders. The RCE is conducting research in Spiriluna and Mushroom with MMMUST and the surrounding communities.
The RCE is working with several partners eg PALWECO and the county governments.
The RCE has held anumber of Workshops in collaboration with other stakeholders like PALWECO.
The RCE recently hosted the African RCE Meeting at Golf Hotel in Kakamega

Challenges
• No specific funding to cater for the RCE has so far been realised. This makes coordination difficult.
.There is need for secretariat with full time staff especially to enhance effective communication
•Illiteracy and low awareness on what entails ESD among political leadership and the other institutions.
