5. Project description
Provide a short description of the project including strategies, regional challenges, aims and specific project activities.:

RCE-Bohol Green Village Project was launched on August 27, 2013 with the MOA signing as the highlight of the activity. The project is a joint undertaking of the Bohol Island State University, the Local Government of Bilar, and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Zamora, Bilar. With the presence of key officials from the Boohol Island State University (BISU), the Provincial Agriculturist Office, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Office of the Mayor and the local residents, the launching started off with the unveiling of the project marker in the site, then a visit to the demonstration garden and culminated with a program at the conference hall of BISU Bilar Campus.

Green Village is an expression of Bohol Island State University’s commitment to implement sustainable development in the community. As a member of RCE-Bohol, BISU shall adhere to the tenets of Education for Sustainable Development that fosters the ability to plan and participate in the realization of a sustainable society. ESD promotes the co-existence of the Earth and the Future Generation.

Green Village therefore, is a rural development modality implemented through collaborative efforts of the academe, the local government and the active participation of the local people. The entry point is community-based conservation gardening where Bahay-Kubo concept is adopted and the genetic conservation of traditional rootcrops for climate change adaptation and the promotion of “Clean and Green” in support to solid waste management program of the government.

It is a valid expectation of the local people that with the collaborative efforts of the participating institutions, a greener pasture for a holistic human development can be materialized in the near future where wholesome living environment is attained whose residents will enjoy prosperity, abundance and improved well-being.
