It has a comparatively mild climate in Japan. There are seven prefectures in Kyushu island: Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima. Fukuoka prefecture where Omuta is located, is in the northern part of Kyushu. It accounts for about 5000 km2 and is the most densely populated prefecture. Its population is about 5 million. It occupies 36% of the total population of Kyushu.

Goals and Objectives:

Short-term goals (to 2020 for two years):

  1. We share the problems and visions with Omuta centred around regional high level education institutes, schools, city, private enterprises, and citizen groups.
  2. To comprise our practical action plans based on Omuta SDGs to achieve those goals.
  3. We manage to launch the projects to solve some problems on sustainability.
  4. We open the seminars and workshops to foster human resources with an ESD point of view. Those seminars should be sponsored by the cooperation of each stakeholder.
  5. We open "ESD regional seminars" (temporary name) for citizens to deepen their understanding on ESD.
  6. We step up to enrich the activities of RCE Omuta through the exchange with other regional RCEs domestically and overseas.

Mid-term goals (to 2025 for seven years):

  1. Each stakeholder promotes ESD positively.
  2. We make a contribution in achieving the goals for sustainable development based on "Omuta SDGs Version"
  3. We set up the system to foster human resources who can act with an ESD point of view.
  4. We enhance the exchange activities and share some information with local RCEs overseas through collecting information and publishing in English.

Long-term goals (to 2030 for 12 years)

  1. Each citizen acts as a designer of a sustainable society.
  2. The stakeholders can share their own issues according to his or her stand and work together.
