Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area :
RCE Penang is not a physical centre or building but a network of individuals, organisations and groups committed to building a more sustainable future through education and learning. Our network includes partners from the voluntary, public, education and business sectors, who work together to develop and implement innovative ESD projects and programmes in Penang. Since RCE Penang is one of the seventh RCE of 170 RCEs in the world, it has been promoting international partnerships with other RCEs with a similar mindset.
This program is conducted using two applications: Zoom Meeting and Facebook Live. All presenters and representatives from Malaysia and abroad participated in this program through the Zoom Meeting application https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3414680580 while other participants participated in this webinar through the Facebook Live application through the School's Facebook Page, which is https:/ /m.facebook.com/eco.schools.smk.convent.bwth/. Three themes were chosen: Health & Well Being, School Grounds and Nature & Biodiversity.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
RCE Penang works in partnership with key stakeholders to bring about change for sustainability at the community level. This sharing session aims to improve the quality of knowledge sharing by disseminating existing knowledge, skills, experience and pedagogical practices in an organisation. This sharing allows a person to understand the world and their environment (Carroll et al, 2003). In other words, organised and planned knowledge-sharing sessions between members of 'Eco-schools' from within the country and abroad are essential in the effort to increase knowledge, increase students' self-confidence and foster the spirit of sustainability and love for the environment. Furthermore, sharing sessions provide opportunities for students to share various knowledge, skills, strategies, materials, resources, and experiences in the context of student development. This process occurs among students and is a way of uncovering the best practices in student development.

Completed
Period:
November, 2021 to April, 2022
Rationale:
Through this sharing session, the students were exposed and gained knowledge directly towards improving their level of understanding in aspects of education for sustainable development based on the concept of learning outside the classroom.

Objectives:
-Provide exposure to teachers and students about the 'seven steps methodology' in the 'Eco-Schools Programme' that is being conducted
-Forge friendships between students who have interest, direction and passion for implementing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
-Improve student achievement with communication skills and leadership skills as well as team spirit
-Increasing students' confidence in the international discussion platform
-To create leaders who can transform their knowledge for a sustainable society
-To empower students to be the leaders in promoting SDGs
Activities and/or practices employed:
At the early stage, the committee opened registration to all schools around the Asia Pacific region. 9 schools were selected for sharing sessions on their best practices. The program continues with Student Sharing Sessions consisting of local and international students according to their respective themes focusing on Health & Well Being, School Grounds and Nature & Biodiversity. A total of 25 presenters and three moderators among the students have successfully delivered presentations through their respective interesting and creative PowerPoint slides. The Eco-Schools project in each school has provided new ideas and is expected to increase awareness among participants to maintain the environmental sustainability. The program concludes with a set of Quiz Best Practices Sharing Session, Eco-Schools Program.

The program recording was also available on Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/eco.schools.smk.convent.bwth/ , to continue promoting and educating the public on SDGs.
Size of academic audience:
PARTICIPATION: Total Schools/Agencies: 210 schools Total Countries: 9 countries Total Teachers: 29 People Total Students: 1004 People
Results:
The project was successfully implemented on Saturday, 9 April 2022. A total of 210 schools with 1004 students attended the webinar sharing session and participated in the quiz competition at the program's end. The Ministry of Education Malaysia approved and supported the project, which aims to promote ESD and co-curriculum at the national and international levels. Through this sharing session, all goals and objectives were successfully achieved, especially in producing strong and balanced students in terms of physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social aspects. Furthermore, all knowledge about sustainable development goals and experience gained through this program can be utilised and used in the future.
Lessons learned:
This program provides a collaboration opportunity for students in Malaysia to share and exchange ideas on sustainability related to specific themes. Students can also exchange ideas and learn about sustainability and eco-schools program across generations with other RCEs centres while promoting Malaysia as a country that actively engages students in promoting SDGs at the school level.
Key messages:
All the themes were chosen because they are very close to students' life experiences and dynamic for empowering students about ESD and SDG in the eco-schools program.
Relationship to other RCE activities:
RCE Penang will make this program a flagship program that cultivates the best practices of eco-schools to be applied to schools under the RCEs network.
