Target Audience:
Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area :
This is a project that deals with issues related with ESD at a school level. It is an education and awareness initiative that runs in a competition mode. It strives to empower and educate the young citizenry to be able to make environment conscious decisions in future. Focus is on competition mode of interdisciplinary learning.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
A school imparts education that is tested through academic indicators and outcomes are scored in terms of how a student scores in the examination. It is equally important that we have a means to judge the environment conscious behaviour that a student has been able to nurture through his/ her daily interactions with text book learning and through non- formal media.
This is the guiding principle behind conceptualisation of GREEN Olympiad, a unique environment examination that imparts knowledge and parallely tests the learning outcomes.

Status:
Ongoing
Period:
January, 1999 to December, 1999
Rationale:
Education is a matter of lifelong learning. It is hence imperative that while we continue with the activities, we also diversify the outcomes with more partners and collaborators. It is with this intention, that an ongoing environment project is being linked with RCE network so that a ripple effect is created and visibility, outreach and impact of the project is strengthened.
Objectives:
a. To promote knowledge about environment issues in school community
b. To transform students into Environment Leaders and Agents of Change in the fields of energy, environment, other natural resources and sustainable development
d. To reach out to a diverse range of stakeholders for realizing a shared vision of global sustainable development

Activities and/or practices employed:
1. Conduct the GREEN Olympiad at regional and global scale.
2. Create knowledge partnerships and strengthen school based environment activities.
Size of academic audience:
2 lakh students annually.
Results:
The project has a huge potential of social acceptance as it is a direct investment made towards development of an education foundation through innovative environment friendly approaches.
Lessons learned:
There is a great scope of setting up networks to create a self sustainable model of environment learning.
Relationship to other RCE activities:
we plan to scale this to a regional level.
