Introduction:

The study was conducted in several Primary School for Orang Asli been facing major problems regarding student attendance records of its teaching and learning strategies, teaching resources and pedagogical materials used does not meet the learning needs of indigenous children. Problem of high absenteeism among pupils Indigenous significant impact on student reading ability, which on the whole showed most of the students were children of indigenous peoples.  

 

Objectives:   

1. To transfer knowledge through basic literacy learning module of Basic Literacy Learning Community Based Story Tradition of Indigenous Peoples.

2. To improve the reading skills for Orang Asal children

3. To optimize the culture and tradition value, and environment resources as the materials in the learning process of Orang Asal children.

4. To conserve the folklore of Orang Asal towards the build-up of identity

 

Knowledge transferred:

This project has three phases which are: 1) using the theory of Experiental Learning (Kolb, 1984) 2) Emphasis on the approach of Basic Creative Story 3) using the Phonic approach and whole language application.

 

Impact of project:

1. Improve the reading skills if Orang Asal children.

2. The combination of culture and activity of Orang Asal through folklore can foster the interest for Orang Asal children to go to school.

3. Conserve the folklore of Orang Asal community towards the build of the identity of Orang Asal children.

4. Decrease the absenteeism of Orang Asal children to school.
