Urban and rural communities around the world need to tackle these challenges and increase their resilience to these issues. Sustainable communities embody sustainability in almost every aspect and are places where people are safe and inclusive and live a high quality of life. They are sensitive to their environment and display a good balance and integration of the social, economic, and environmental components of their community.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a key instrument to achieving the SDGs. Through Education Sustainable Development, it strengthens the means of implementation and revitalization of local partnerships for sustainable development. A core focus of the working group is to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: sustainable cities and communities by 2030. Rationale:
RCE Kuching community is treating the Covid-19 pandemic as a learning experience - learning from challenges, disruption, climate insecurity, rapid technological change, and failures. The pandemic also reminds us of the skills needed in this unpredictable world such as informed decision-making, creative problem solving, and adaptability. Meetings virtually and having virtual thematic activities, our knowledge is enriched, especially on sustainability and having a sustainable community, hence our work and study space can be done anywhere and anytime so as to promote a safe and clean environment. Thus, we can find deeper meaning in life, enhance skills, embrace new learning opportunities, create and exchange ideas, impart knowledge, and build a global sphere of networking through our virtual events. To provide a learning continuity plan for a resilient education system. RCE Kuching working group 4 with its core focus on supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: Sustainable cities and communities by 2030, took the initiative to support the Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) objective, so as to educate the communities and public on Sustainable Goal by innovatively creating a one-stop platform and at a fingertip click named, “Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) Kuching Thematic Virtual Exhibition”, aims to raise knowledge, awareness, and action on the key related SDGs through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) as the main framework in its educational programs, research development, and outreach and engagement efforts. Especially, to empower youth as the future generation to advocate sustainable objectives.
Objectives:
Aim to achieve the ESD-SDG objectives and develop cross-cutting key competencies for sustainability that are relevant to all SDGs. Our Working Group’s core focus supports the achievement of the SDGs by raising knowledge, awareness, and action on ESD-SDGs through RCE and UCSI communities and stakeholders’ teaching and learning experiences from the activities/events, research, surveys, quizzes, and partnership.
RCE is a regional network of existing institutions and individuals, committed to using education and learning as tools for building a sustainable future. Calling forth, “Let us together accelerate development efforts towards the vision 2030, without leaving anyone behind” as our way forward to see a sustainable future.
