As the conference date approaches, the Organizing Committee will provide you with more specific details regarding airport arrivals and transportation to the hotels. In the meantime, conference participants are asked to check with their local Kenyan Embassy or Consulate to find out more information about visa requirements. The Kenyan Immigration Department also has a useful website that includes information regarding passport and visa requirements: http://www.immigration.go.ke/. Please keep in mind that visa applications can often take a number of months to be processed; participants are encouraged to apply early for their visas. If you need a Note Verbale from UNU-IAS for the conference, please contact the Global RCE Service Centre at rceconference@ias.unu.edu

Health
It is strongly recommended that you visit a travel medicine clinic at least 8 weeks before your trip, in order to check on suggested vaccinations or other preventive measures for your trip. The purchase of travel insurance to cover any emergency medical costs is also encouraged.
For more information, please visit your national travel and health website (some links available here: http://www.who.int/ith/links/national_links/en/index.html)
Security
Nairobi is generally a calm city but some areas are insecure and you are recommended to take caution while travelling. As in many large cities, there criminal attacks can occur, ranging from relatively minor incidents such as pickpocketing to more serious events such as armed muggings. Conference participants are advised not to travel with expensive valuables. Valuables that must be brought should be stored in hotel safety deposit boxes or safe rooms when possible. Walking alone or at night, especially in downtown areas, public parks, beaches and along footpaths in poorly lit areas, is discouraged. Participants are instead encouraged to travel only with RCE Global Conference Participant groups in properly designated vehicles.
The Conference Organizing Committee provides this information for your convenience and safety but it takes no responsibility for any lost or stolen goods or any damage to property.
There are a variety of interesting activities in and around Nairobi that may be of interest to participants during their free time. Safaris, city tours and visits to local monuments and national parks are among the options. If you would like to find out more about tour agents and possible tours around the city, please contact rceconference@ias.unu.edu
