Contents
Status:
Ongoing
Rationale:
The KPN and other protected areas close or even inside Warsaw agglomeration are the very important objects for environmental education and recreation for urban citizen. But the environmental awareness in urban population is not sufficient as well as average knowledge about such a “ natural jewel” as national park or other protected area in neighborhood. The Directors and staff of the KPN are looking for methods of valuable education on biodiversity, attracting more visitors to Park’s educational trails and at the same time avoiding negative effects on park’s ecosystems.
Objectives:
The goal of our campaign it is to popularize national parks as very important institutions playing great role in adaptation to climate change, creating place for formal and non formal education on all levels and creates opportunity for relax and serves for better health condition for everybody. Through individually tailored methods of communication and information in diverse Partners webpages and thanks to organization of special events oriented to different social groups we hope to inspire changes towards a more healthy and sustainable way of living in urban zones using opportunities created by urban protected areas especially The Kampinoski National Park.
Activities and/or practices employed:
RCE as consortium of Partners together with The KPN authorities as the key Partner unified and coordinate common efforts for successful campaign . All very diverse Partners of RCEWM are looking for methods of communication addressed to theirs specific audience to straightening public perception of benefits from ecosystem services of national park. Each Partner use their own possibility. For example: Municipal authority will care about sufficient bus transportation from city to the parks gate, the Pedagogical University will prepare teachers to be ready for out of class environmental education in KPN. University of Warsaw have organized special exhibition on the role of forest in the adaptation of the urban zone to the climate change.
Size of academic audience:
The audience is very broad and numerous but detailed calculation is very difficult. Only exhibition organized in the main hall of the University of Warsaw gathered itself more than 1500 visitors.
Results:
The process is still going on so it is to early for evaluation of results. The meetings and consolidation of RCE Partners it is the good result itself. as well as exchange of experience in methods for education on biodiversity between The KPN and other partners.
Lessons learned:
The diversity of Partners in RCE it is important opportunity for activation of different social groups towards achieve the SDGs especially goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing, goal 4: Promote lifelong learning and goal 15; Protect restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
Key messages:
The key message is as the slogan from IUCN World Parks Congress: Healthy Parks- Healthy People
Relationship to other RCE activities:
