Rationale:
The main objective of the program is to educate the People with Disabilities (PWD) on how to correctly use their assistive devices that include wheelchair, prosthetics and orthotics while conducting their daily life activities in metropolitan urban city such as Kuala Lumpur. The PWD community also will use this program as platform to share their opinion and experience on how and what is actually they need from their side to be share with the researcher, institutional and designer. They also use the program to motivate themselves in talking, improve themselves in sport activities which could also empower them to become a better person such as joining the para sport activities.
The rational come when most of the PWD do not really understand on how to use their assistive devices given. They also shy and felt unconfident in talking and communicating with others and they felt useless without knowledgeable of a lot of activities that they can have.
Objectives:
This program / project will be carried out using the University's (University of Malaya) methodology to the PWD community. It includes 3 important aspects: 1. teaching and rehabilitation services, 2. social and rehabilitation services, 3. service sports and recovery. This is to enable PWD community to feel the life of ordinary people in a University. At the same time getting a direct recovery consultation from our staff.
Activities and/or practices employed:
1. Helps direct recovery consultation and disclosure with PWD
2. Increase the awareness of the importance of using assistive devices among disabled persons
3. Improved access to quality rehabilitation and social basic physical infrastructure for the need for local disabled people.

Activities:
1. Teaching & Rehabilitation (Biomechanics of Prosthetics)
-Teaching on the correct use of prosthetics tools and the right way to use biomechanical motion analysis with prosthesis (prosthesis gait, way of walking)
2. Social & Recovery
I PWD, what about you?
-Forum will be sharing about PWD. Recent technology and assistance will be the role of disabled in the institution
3. Sports & Rehabilitation
- sport activities such as wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball
Size of academic audience:
The program focuses on the PWD community from PLPP who have an average of 50 students per year of study, 10 lecturers from PLPP, 20 undergraduate University Degree and 5 University staff.
Results:
All PWD will get more in-depth information on the use and selection of assistive devices properly. They will also get a free and deeper consultation with a recovery specialist. Provide experience for both parties (UM Students and PLPP Students) to share various things such as, teaching, advisory and social.

Students can also make interactions with PWD as a catalyst for them while working in the real world. This activity is also expected to serve as a platform for the disabled youth for Paralympics sports activities.
Lessons learned:
The PWD may not be able to feel the real life of University’s students today. Opportunities like this can bring PWD to visit university facilities such as libraries and labs. At the same time they will be taken to the Center for Prosthetic and Orthotics Engineering, University of Malaya to be exposed to the rehabilitation teaching process such as prosthetic foot and prosthetic hand making, repair of wheelchairs and selecting the right tools. They will also have direct consultation with our staff recognized by the International Society Prosthetic and Orthotic international body. This teaching and rehabilitation program also involves instructors from PLPP itself so that technological developments in the area of recovery can be discussed. This is a golden opportunity for the undergraduates themselves to have better understanding with the PWD.
Key messages:
Be Able: Venturing beyond Disabilities is a platform, where us as educator educate the disabilities on how to use the assistive devices properly, empowering them to a new level of personality in talking and communicating, and explore them to a possibilities of sports activities so they can have a sustain self-rehabilitation.
