Resilience. Resilience. Resilience. A powerful word that reverberated around the room as we listened to the remarkable and inspiring stories of five refugee speakers. These five speakers were invited to London South Bank University on the 9th of June 2015 to share their stories with an audience of refugee participants. The event under the banner “Lifelong Learning: Sustaining Educational Journeys” was London ESD’s first time working with refugee communities and refugee community organisations. The event set out to use storytelling as a narrative to share refugee experiences of their educational journeys in formal and informal education, in order to demonstrate that education is both a means and an end to the inequality and injustice that many are faced with. This project was researched beforehand by identifying , with local refugee groups what focus would be of use to them in a conference format. We intend to build on the success of this event by hosting a follow up conference designed by some of the original refugee contributors.
