1. Project title:
Socio-Economic and Environmental Awareness (SEA) Education for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management in Banacon Island, Philippines
2. Project Description:
This is an on-going project implemented in Banacon, an island community in Bohol Province, Philippines which is an initiative of the Regional Climate Change Center, Bohol Island State University and the Department of Education; all members of RCE Bohol. Like other small islands in the Philippines, Banacon is highly vulnerable to climate change. The increasing population is a threat to the socio-economic and environmental stability of the island. It is imperative therefore that a transformative education of the villagers be consistently done to protect and preserve the integrity of their fragile ecosystem and their survival as human inhabitants considering the current climatic changes that affect their livelihood. Such awareness education will empower the villagers to enhance their creativity to develop adaptation measures and strengthen their capacity as community for disaster risk management.
