Provide a short description of the project including strategies, regional challenges, aims and specific project activities.:

Kim Smith, Director of RCE Greater Portland presented a webinar, hosted by RCE candidate Atlanta, to explore how regions can increase their collective impact through forming Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE) aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. With five RCEs in the U.S. and 157 around the world, there are many benefits to supporting collaboration on the local and regional level and becoming part of a global movement.

This webinar highlighted the history of RCEs, offered an overview of current UN initiatives, illustrated the RCE development process, and provided time to talk about the particular needs of the Atlanta region. These resources are based on the core lessons of the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS)’s RCE Network and were discovered through the evolution of RCE Greater Portland.  Portland’s experiences helped Atlanta work through its own core questions and processes. While every RCE is unique, based on its own regional challenges and resources, their tools will save us time and effort.
