Provide a short description of the project including strategies, regional challenges, aims and specific project activities.:

Our end-of-summer party and networking event celebrated sustainability, kicked off the new school year, and highlighted our community partners, including the CENTER and their coalition of community organizations in North Portland, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and our Youth Network.

Board member David Kunz provided live music, in addition to our different speakers, refreshments, ice cream, and tabling.

It was hosted at One North, named 2016 Sustainable Project of the Year (Portland Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards). One of the designers shared insights on the building and courtyard's sustainable features, including low-carbon materials, a rooftop photovoltaic array, high-performance building principles, native landscaping, and a strong ethic of inclusion.

The event was also a fundraiser, with sales of our signature ice cream “Taste of Sustainability.” Developed in collaboration with “What’s the Scoop?” ice cream shop, this new flavor includes: basil-mint ice cream, blueberry swirls, marshmallow clouds, hazelnut brittle and dark chocolate.  Funds raised by ice cream sales benefitted our GPSEN Youth Network.

Description:
We faced some technical challenges in the orders and had an accelerated time for sales, so we did not raise as much money as planned. The youth also failed to complete some tasks, so much of the work fell on our Board members. We hope to have more time for planning next year, in order to raise more money and increase attendance.
