New Project Document for SVS

Dear friends and colleagues, Thank you all for the positive and valuable comments on the project idea SVS. I am happy to work with you all! Special thanks go to Abdesh for providing us with the link to CEE, and also to Detlev for his Leonoardo-application which may serve as a guide for us. Welcome to Niels who may help us linking with RCE Kakamega. I shall be reading your documents with great interest the upcoming days. Please find enclosed the updated project file on SVS (7 December) with quite some adaptations when compared with the last one. Please pay extra attention to the last paragraph where we focus on the time line for next year. My special request is to provide me (us) with names of potential project members, possible pilots and of people who can serve as role models. I shall be writing more detailed answers and suggestions on questions that are raised in this documents. If you can help me with this, please feel welcome to do so. i would be delighted to receive a lot of suggestions, answers, linkages etc. Greetings to you all! Jos Hermans

I do agree with Detlev. It is highly needed to analyse the systems or the short comings of existing vocational schools. Moreover, many developing countries have common problems with waste management, industrial effluent treatment and occupational safety and health and these are the vital components of Sustainable Vocational Schools. On behalf of RCE Greater Dhaka I appreciate SVS discussion initiative agenda that includes research. I have included a few points in the attached document for further improvement. I shall be thankful participating as a member of SVS and to cooperate with you all.

Dear all,
I participated in the Youth Unite for Voluntary Action, 2012 organized by TERI University, New Delhi, India. During the meet I join the International Student Energy Summit. There I understand the situation of energy crises that the world is struggling with. I was hearing about a lot of situations for the first time, what others in the other parts of the world are doing concerning the global problem, (reducing emission, creating awareness, developing solutions etc.) When I returned home, I started researching on the level of awareness about GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE among the youths, I was not so surprised to find the result alarmingly as low as 12%. I decided to take action on CREATING AWARENESS AND ACTION. Unemployment is among the pillars of Sustainable Development. I make research on production skills that can be simple and have the potential of high profit, marketability and long term engagement. That has to do with building materials or food production. I chose PAINT PRODUCTION AND MOSAIC EFFECT FLOOR (TERRAZZO). I developed a membership form which indicates working for sustenance and addressing CLIMATE CHANGE. I select thirty unemployed youths from each ward, starting from Nassarawa Local Government area of Kano State, which have 11 wards. We meet every two weeks (on weekends) I give talks on climate change and the way outs, what each and every one should do as a soldier of the earth. We also invite lecturers to talk about climate change ALL IN THE LOCAL LANGUAGE (HAUSA). All these collaborations hence the project “RESEARCH ON THE CONVERTION OF FOSSIL FUEL GENERATOR TO ZERO CO2 POWER GENERATOR”. In the area of UNEMPLOYEMENT REDUCTION NETWORK-YOUTH, we trained some of these youth on marketing strategy, sales and accounting. Today I have seven URN or URP-Y paint production companies in Nassarawa LGA alone. I am presently in Tudun Wadan Dankade LGA, Kano State, where the district head during a courtesy visit we paid to his palace awards the youths all the paints his newly constructed palace would need. He also promised to spearhead the program in the Local government himself in order to succeed in securing a huge contract of supply of paint to an ongoing project of school of art and science by the state government in the local government.
I also want to bring a portable tile production machine I saw in India and also looking for a way to take some of the youths to India to get training on the manual production of roofing sheets which I also saw there.

Dear all and a happy new year
After reading the main document from Jos Hermans on Sustainable Vocational Schools and the follow up mails (18 december, 22 december) I will confirm that I like to participate and also coordinate the pilot Projects.
As Jos has mentioned I am often in Africa (NeXT trip is 29th of January to 25 of february) where I will be working in Kenya and have a small trip to Uganda as well.

Please let me know of any good examples and cases for Pilot project which can be a part of the Sustainable Vocational School.
